Your windows can be a cut above the rest with the right kind of dressing. Whether it's more light you want or more privacy, you must choose the right kind of window treatment. If you have a window, you must dress it up. There are many aspects to be considered though. You could dress it up using drapes, valances, awnings, sheers or even blinds. You could decorate your windows with rich brocades and tapestries; or make your room warm with velvet and wool; or you could give an airy touch to the room with lace and cottons.
However, you must choose window treatments that compliment the style of dcor in your home. Set the mood in your room with the right kind of window treatment. Go for either a formal look or a casual one. For a luxurious look, go for a formal treatment with floor-length drapes. Layer them with sheer underneath. Finish it off with a top treatment. This kind of window dressing looks great in rooms with high ceilings and tall windows. You could also settle for a dressed up curtain panel with curtains, giving it a flirty touch with ruffles.
Valances, cornices and awnings can make a huge difference too. Use them alone or in combination with blinds and shades to make your windows more attractive. Add some visual interest to your windows and see what a huge difference that makes. Valance is a fabric that hangs across the top of a window, usually covering a third of the window glass. Often used to hide display hardware, it can be dropped, gathered or pleated. Valances can be used with or without a curtain underneath
