Is search engine submission worth it? The short answer is yes! Why in the world wouldnt you want a shot at the 80%+ of consumers that use search engines to find what they want?
But, invariably, the question is not whether search engine submission is worth it, but how much time and money do you want to expend doing it? The bottom line is that a little is good and more is better. And if you have to spend to do it, spend smart.
A few things to keep in mind
Three search engines provide the content for most of the others. Google, Yahoo! and MSN are the important general engines and submitting your site to them is not difficult.
While some firms, for a fee, will offer to submit your sites to thousands of search engines, you may not need to be in thousands of search engines. Instead focus on being the search engines that matter in your country, in your language, and in your industry.
Why guess? The breakeven for pay per click (PPC) engine submissions can be mathematically calculated based on the cost per click of the current top position holder for popular keywords versus the response rate you need to pay for the advertising and yield a profit.
Dont ignore industry directories and local commerce listings. Often these can be very inexpensive, if not free, and sometimes yield surprising results!
Search engine submissions are worth it, but cherry-pick the submissions that are most appropriate for your business objectives.
