Calories For Tuna

Tuna has long been heralded as a healthy food. Is this really the case? In this article, I look into the truth.

As you might guess, tuna is a great type of food to eat if you are watching your weight. Being an fish protein, it contains a high amount of beneficial omega fats, is high in protein and contains practically zero carbs.

The amount of calories that it contains depends a great deal on what type of tuna you are getting.

With a can being 165 grams, for tuna in spring water you get 191 calories, of which 12 come from fat. Although remember, the fats in tuna are actually good for you.

Tuna is also low in saturated fat, sodium and contains no sugar. As well as that, it is high in beneficial vitamins and minerals such as B6, B12, niacin and phosphorus.

You can also get tuna in oil. Just remember that this contains much more calories. For example, a can will give you 339 calories, over double what it is in spring water, and 126 of those calories come from fat. Even so, it still makes for a great meal and is much better than a lot of other foods out there, even with the oil.

The oily tuna is also quite tasty and satisfaction of your food plays a great part in controlling the hunger pangs and not later binging.

Just one word of warning - tuna contains very tiny levels of mercury. As part of a normal healthy diet it does not pose a threat - just don't eat it every single day.
